Healing the Colonized Mind: The Path of Personal Decolonization

The issues of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Antiracism desperately require our collective attention and personal efforts. We must invite everyone into the conversation to amend our modern colonized paradigm. We do this by addressing the root cause of our social division: colonization and its effects on all our lives through social dynamics such as race, ethnicity, class, and caste.

This professional development program is designed to dismantle racialized identities and bring us back to humanity through cultural healing practices. It teaches participants the root cause of racial inequities and provides practical tools for engaging in productive conversations about colonized paradigms and their effects on our social institutions. Participants will leave prepared to effect change with new self-reflection, self-regulation, and self-awareness skills, leading to healthy perspectives and dialogue.

This course meets WA SB 5044 and 5227 requirements, instructing that Washington State public schools and higher education institutions provide diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism training to their staff, teachers, and administration.

Outcomes:

  • Understand the Legacy of Colonization: Participants will explore the historical context of colonization and its ongoing impacts on societal structures, providing a deeper understanding of racial inequities and their roots.

  • Develop Practical Skills for Constructive Dialogue: Through guided exercises, participants will gain essential communication skills that enable them to engage in meaningful and respectful conversations about diversity, equity, and social justice.

  • Cultivate Personal and Collective Accountability: The course will encourage participants to reflect on their identities and biases, fostering a sense of responsibility to advocate for positive change within their communities and institutions.
